Liverpool 1950

I've been wondering for a while about the Liverpool where the Beatles grew up, when
along came the BBC Radio Series Sounds of the 20th Century. This excellent radio series
maps from 1951 to 2000 and plays the songs of the day as well as the current
affairs relevant to each year. In this instance I am only interested in two periods.
1951 to 1961 Pre Beatles and 1962 to 1970 The Beatle Years.
These will be found at http://www.beatlesradiowaves.blogspot.com/ over the coming
weeks.

In Philip Normans In my Life Lennon Biography, Norman suggests a film for 1950
The Magnet where, A boy steals a powerful magnet from a younger boy and
gets him into all sorts of  trouble.  But as Norman points out what is interesting
are the views of Liverpool, bomb damage from the second world war
clearlyvisable along the dock side and the Liverpool Overhead Railway running,
which was closed in 1956.

So welcome to a 1950 where John and Ringo where 10, Paul was 8 and George 7.
